Design 2020/WAVE of Harrisburg, N.C., announces its selection by the leadership of Sharon United Methodist Church (UMC) in Charlotte, N.C., to provide audio, video, lighting and acoustics design for the church’s new SouthPark Church. The firm made an initial announcement of its involvement on LinkedIn in February 2018. The project will be developed and managed by Cool Solutions Group of Charlotte, a company that provides church facility management solutions.
Church.Design originally posted news of the project in January 2018 after speaking with Stephen Pickard, principal at GFF Inc., an architectural firm in Dallas that was hired to transition the church into its new building. Armando Fullwood, executive director of WAVE, notes on LinkedIn of his firm’s involvement in the SouthPark Church expansion, “This is a perfect project, utilizing [the] traditional, contemporary, acoustics, and brand design teams within our company to showcase our holistic approach to developing destination experiences.”
SouthPark Church’s website reports this of the project: “To serve our community, the congregation decided to redevelop our seven acres into a mixed-use campus. The church will be the anchor tenant. We plan to share the church spaces radically with the community, including a new church building, a performing arts center, and a fitness facility. Other potential tenants in the project are retail, dining, office space, a boutique hotel, an upscale retirement community, and multifamily residential. This unique concept will allow us to interact effectively with our community 24-7, and to lead people into life rich in Jesus Christ.”
From the Charlotte Observer: “[The church leadership’s] prayer is that a lot of the people who will eat, shop, work or live near the reborn church will stop in and worship there.”
The project completion date is TBA.
